Christianity isn’t a list of rules to follow. It’s a journey we go on together, seeking greater understanding and peace in fellowship with others. At Commonwealth Baptist Church, we want to always be growing as individuals and deepening our relationships with each other and with God.
Adult Bible Study & Small Groups
We believe that Bible study is a vital part of church life, and we offer both weeknight and Sunday options that are open to all.
Sundays at 9:45 am: The Adult Bible Study class meets in the second-floor Prayer Room and the Senior Adult Bible Study class meets in the Dorcas Room.
Mondays at 7 pm: The Weeknight Bible Study group meets in the Prayer Room. For more information, contact Pastor Marty.
Tuesdays at 7 pm: The Women’s Spiritual Formation group meets in the Prayer Room. We typically choose a book for discussion each month and periodically meet for dinner at a restaurant or member’s home. For more information, contact Pastor Robin.
Throughout the year, we also offer a variety of short-term workshops and small groups based on parishioner interest, and often led by CBC members or deacons. For several years, for example, a group of members has participated in the “Atheism for Lent” online course that explores the intersection of belief and disbelief. Participants are not asked to become atheists, rather we read texts by theologians and famous atheists in conversation to “de-center” ourselves prior to the catharsis of Easter and the resurrection.
Children and Youth
…are an incredibly important part of the church family! CBC is a warm, loving place where families are embraced and invited to grow in faith by worshiping, learning, and serving together. We are a safe place for children to explore God’s world, discover and express their faith, ask questions, and feel loved. We seek to nurture the spiritual formation of children through Bible Study, Children’s Choir, mission opportunities, and by including children in our worship services.
Sunday School for school-age children takes place Sunday mornings at 9:45 on the third-floor Children’s Wing. We follow the Next LEVEL youth ministry program. If you are interested in learning more about our youth program, or have any questions about Next LEVEL, please contact Courtney Hodge, our Coordinator for Christian Education.
Preschool and Nursery
At CBC we believe that one of the ways in which children first experience God’s love is when people take good care of them and delight in them. We also know that children who have positive experiences in church are more likely to grow into adults who actively participate in church. Because of this, it is important to us that our nursery be a warm, nurturing place.
We want young children to have a sense of familiarity and comfort when they come to church, so we have two experienced, loving childcare workers who work every Sunday. Ms. Ansley and Ms. Nathalie are dedicated and gifted at what they do. Our nursery is for ages birth-5, and we provide childcare for both Sunday School and worship. During the 9:45 hour there is a Sunday School lesson for the preschool-aged children.
